Interesting opportunities arise when you have some skill at the ole paintbrush. A recent 2-week opportunity came from me when our neighbor and landlady from Momma's Kitchen came to me about producing new signage for the restaurant. What emerged were two 8ft-tall mountain men, as well as two profiles of girls in bonnets. James, co-owner of Momma's Kitchen, cut out the forms out of plywood, primed them, and delivered them to me to paint them.
I also got to practice some typography while designing/painting the signs that the mountain men carry.
I definitely enjoyed the process - time-consuming though it was. I also enjoy walking down the street and seeing my handiwork at large, proudly taking up space, changing the surrounding landscape.
I have received good feedback re. my handiwork, and I hope it fills Momma's Kitchen advertising needs.
If I have a chance, I will seek out similar work, both locally and farther afield. Something could come of it.
