Hi all! For Sunday Sketches today, I'd like to share an oldie but goodie - I may have shared this with some people in the past but I don't remember plus, I would like everybody's honest opinion about this piece, because it sparked some controversy recently.
It is made with tempera and enviro tex on top.
So, if you care to participate, please let me know your impartial & sincere opinion! Some sample questions are:
1. Do you like this piece?
2. What feelings does it evoke?
3. Would you purchase this, for yourself or somebody else?
4. What opinion would you have of someone if you saw this hanging in their house?
Thanks for playing! and in any event have a great Sunday!

Liefs, Melanie
Hmm ~ lots of work and design in painting ~ dark paintings, though, are not 'my thing' ~ just my opinion ~
thanks for visit and comments
This is really cool Alicia. I love the colours and the darkness. Now to your difficult questions
1. Yes I do like this piece
2. fear
3. nope, for eventhough I really like it and find it interesting and would love to see it in more detail, from what I see scares me - I am a bit superstitious.
4.I am not sure what I would think, I would really need to see a larger photo of the painting to see all the details in detail. From the the impression of what I can see on my monitor - I would do a double take of the person if I did not know they were into spiritualism stuff.
hope this helped.
1. Alicia it's not my style since you asked, I love the Canal Magalena, that's more me.
2. It's a dramatic, dark piece
3. I wouldn't buy it
4. The purchaser might have a more traditional formal decor in my mind certainly not casual and I think it would look beautiful there!
thanks guys exactly what I was lookign for!
I have never been able to make this piece 'acceptable' no matter how hard I try, but sthg about it compells me nonetheless. So i don't want to toss it, ha ha! And I've always though ti a bit 'Halloweeny' which is really weird bc that's not really me you know.. LOL!
the controversy what that I stopped wanting to take it out to the art fairs bc I suspected it scared people LOL & though it might weirdly hurt our prospects. But hubby (& others) were like "no, it's really cool, I'm sure some biker goth out there would really dig it" so.. I dunno. For now it's out of commission but I was revisiting the issue once again & so thanks for the feedback!
its a good painting but I think its ok for halloween or goths etc as its a bit scary
Hi Alicia,
1. I don't know if I like it or not..
2. It's scary
3. No I wouldn't buy it.
4. Depending who had it, I might think strange..
Happy SS :)
Hello. There's something about this piece that makes me think of dark fairytales, and I like the branches that make up the frame. As for what emotion it evokes, I'm honestly not sure. I wouldn't buy it because there's something about the one big face that makes me think the image has a backstory and that it belongs in a book rather than being displayed on its own on a wall.
I find it interesting but is a bit scarey. I wouldn't buy it, but I could see it in a goth household! I think it is the black that puts people off, if the background had more colour in it wouldn't be so scary, just my thoughts.
It's an interesting piece, but no I wouldn't buy this, too dark for my liking. It's rather spooky, still it has character and is intriguing.
wow - really really interesting - I wonder what exactly makes it scary? so interesting!!
It's really well done and thought provoking. I would not buy it, but if it was hanging at an art fair I would definitely take a closer look. Anything with masks tend to be scary to me. And what looks like a mask to me reminds me of the joker from batman. But, I went to an art fair where one artist had a whole booth full of goth type stuff. I don't know how much she sold, but she was getting a lot of attention and great feedback. :)
Hey Alicia, thanks for visiting my blog !
I like this piece, don't really know what it inspires me but I like it. Though I wouldn't buy it for myself, just because I don't hang other pieces of art than mine or my mother's on my walls !
I wouldn't have any opinion about someone who would have it at home, since I really like it !
I am curious about your comment : Aujourd'hui je me battre contre bloglovin pour longtemps essayant les plus simples choses... would you please tell me more ? about BL and about your means ?
looking forward to reading from you !
oh wow!!! this is such a cool piece....well done!!!
Hi! I havent managed the back end of BL but as a user it is a total nightmare. It makes facebook /email login compleletly redundant by forcing you to register/sign in to both at once. Just the Sunday in question i had spent like 5 Minutes trying to deal with it and finally i had to set up a dummy account just to get it to work! Maybe am just spoiled that google reader was so easy but even facebook or g+ is less clunky Imo. Sorry for slow reply jusy noticed your comment!!!
