Paint Party Friday - late and a bit on edge

Thanks much to Eva and Kristin's Paint Party Friday for giving many of us this cool chance to paint!

Chose to, in a pre-boat-painting mode, take out temperas and see what I could come up with. Was discussing with a friend earlier that it is very difficult to come up with something creative out of wholecloth, with nothing photographic or life-like to refer to. It's an interesting problem - coming up with new stuff. Part of it is brave - confronting the blank paper with no plan or preconceived notion. Part of it I think involves having the ability to channel the freefloating creativity existing within so as to come up with something specific. The third test of course is being able to access the skills and techniques of painting/rendering with no outside guidance (IE no model of any sort).

These areas are one I have lacking which is why free form things I do come out a little weird. Hence, this man that reminds me of some of the weird things I had to cook up for life drawing class! On the other hand, one's mood informs what comes out and this piece captures the fact I feel more than a little 'on edge' right now.

Was at a community meeting last night and ate waaaaaay too much sugar - then over to the pancake place for biscuits and such - and this comes out! In the interim undergoing the stress of translating my project idea to reality - don't know. On edge. This is what being on edge looks like I guess.................

Reminds me of the Terminator ; )
I think you did real well and it does convey a sense of edginess.
The sugar could be the culprit, I felt the same today and ate a little too much sugar as well.
Maybe making a print and placing it on the frig will keep us away from the sweets....just joking.
Thanks for sharing.
p.s. Adore your banner...lovely colours and composition.

thanks Annabelle! the banner was an analog of the Turner wood project I am about to undertake (gulp!) made back in summer of 2010.

I like the idea of sticking the pic on the fridge! I'm starting to wonder if I in particular am someone who really needs to stay away from sugar..... I feel like it shouldn't have gotten to me THAT much....

good job, I need something to refer to myself, free form seems to work naturally for some.

Love how you used non traditional colors for a life drawing! The way the colors layer and create depth rocks!

thanks Christine and Carolyn! Good to know I'm not the only one with this issue, and thanks for the note re depth! Part of the reason for weird colors comes from the fact I didn't set out to paint a person - it just came out

LOL - I think he does reflect being on edge - or maybe he is inspiring - "Fierce Determination"! (To do your big project..)

I agree Alicia. He definitely does look like he is on edge. I agree with Eva, he may be telling you to get that project started. Go for it. Can hardly wait to see what your project is. I really love your piece and all it's colors and depth. Thank you. Happy PPF!

Hello Honey Bunny!

To an extent the conundrum that you describe is like the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, which suggests that knowing both location and velocity at the same time is impossible. Having the model takes care of location, but the momentum is only available in the psyche.

In terms of edges, one might recall that every pledge, every ledge, and every hedge is an edge. Heck, even ordinary sedge is the precipice of many earth-shaking events for aphids and ants.

The issue is one of process and commitment, both of which are available to you. As my granddaddy used to say, "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition."

yay, cute!!! I LOVE that you say 'model provides the location' is so true!

He? is very edgy! I feel he is hungry though...seems like ribs showing? But I think he might explode, too. very good for leaving open to interpretation by viewer.
